This Mum Runs!

7th September 2018

I’m Susie and I have never run anywhere in my life (other than for a bus or maybe food!) A few years ago I signed up for the Yorkshire Marathon with some friends and failed at keeping up with training (it’s actually quite hard!) After turning 40 last October a few of my friends suggested we do something to get fit and that would be significant enough to mark our 40th year. I was pregnant at this point and completely ignored the suggestion! It did however continue to nag at me after the birth of my son in January. I felt better than I thought I would and recovered relatively quickly. I considered some training, signed back up at the gym and completed my first ParkRun at Witton Park in Blackburn. I managed to get around my first run with a few stops and a face that could light fires and then had that ‘runners high!’ A feeling that I was invincible and could run anything! So, I entered some Race for Life events and began fund raising on the way, then, the Race for Life half marathon and then the runners high hit again! That has led me to enter a number of events this September and October and I have chosen to yet again support charities important to me on the way.

Yorkshire Marathon (and some bits inbetween!)

Yorkshire Marathon on 14/10/18. Before this I will be training and completing a number of events. The training is grueling, alongside having 2 kids and a husband with hobbies, it’s taken some commitment from us all to keep up with it- especially during the summer holidays! I have chosen to raise funds  for the Blackburn Foodbank (Trussell Trust). The work they do is so important. They support our local communities in many ways providing not only emergency food supplies but debt advice, clothes bank, IT support and importantly lending an ear to listen and advice to support in times of need that enables people to become independent once more. If you feel you could support me through sponsorship that is fantastic (and I’m not kidding that got me round my first half marathon) If you are unable to but are willing to donate food please think of me when you do your next supermarket shop there’s collection bins in Tesco and ASDA for the Trussell Trust a donation would be fantastic. Alternatively collect together spare carrier bags – these are always useful pass them to me and I’ll send them on.
9/9 – Wirral Half
16/9 – Lancaster marathon
23/9 – Padiham 10k
30/9 – Preston 10k
