Volunteer

Volunteers are the life blood of foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.

Blackburn Foodbank has a team of over 50 volunteers. They are the driving force behind our operations. We want you to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.

Below is a list of the volunteer roles we currently have available:

 

URGENT – VOLUNTEER DRIVER WITH VAN

๐Ÿš Volunteer Van Driver (Own Van Required) โ€“ Mondays
Location: Blackburn and surrounding areas
Expenses: ยฃ0.45 per mile

Blackburn Foodbank is looking for a reliable volunteer Van Driver (with their own van) to support our work every Monday.

Youโ€™ll help with:
โœ… Collecting donations from local supermarkets and other generous supporters
โœ… Dropping offย  to local partners or services if needed
โœ… Being a friendly and dependable face in the community

What we offer:
๐ŸŸข ยฃ0.45 per mile to cover expenses
๐ŸŸข Full support from our welcoming warehouse team

What youโ€™ll need:
๐Ÿš A van you can use on Mondays
๐Ÿ•’ Availability from 8am on Mondays
๐Ÿ‘ A positive, can-do attitude

Kurdish interpreter – Ad Hoc

Role involves:

  • Interpreting phone calls for the food pick and signposting.
  • Interpreting Oaks advice appointment.
  • Must be fluent in English and Kurdish.

 

Romanian Interpreter – Ad Hoc

Role involves:
  • Interpreting phone calls for the food pick and signposting.
  • Interpreting Oaks advice appointment.
  • Must be fluent in English and Romanian.

 

Multi-task volunteer, fluent in English, Urdu & Punjabi – Monday, Wednesday and Friday (9.45am – 2.15pm)

Role involves:

  • Interpreting phone calls for the food pick and signposting.
  • Interpreting Oaks advice appointments, talking to clients who are present at the Foodbank and explaining the referral process.
Volunteer Handyman – as and when needed
Role involves:
  • Helping with repairs and general maintenance.

 

Supermarket Collections – Regular events throughout the year based in Blackburn and Great Harwood

Role involves:

  • Supporting the food bank during supermarket collections.
  • Attending the supermarket to hand out shopping lists and talk to customers about the work our food bank does.
Role involves:
  • Helping with day to day IT, eg; setting up laptops, connecting and fixing printers, etc

 

Oaks Money Advice Centre Admin Assistant – Part time during working hours (Monday-Friday 9am-3pm)

Role involves:
  • To help contact clients and book them in for appointments.
  • Answer the referral phone and answer any queries.
